Glimmers are small moments or experiences that bring us a sense of calm, joy, or connection, often in the midst of stress or anxiety.
And let’s be real, there is a lot of stress and anxiety in this world right now.
These could be as simple as a beautiful sunset, the sound of birds chirping, or the warmth of a comforting hug.
They are the opposite of “”triggers””—things that heighten our stress or anxiety—and instead serve as gentle reminders of safety and peace.
Glimmers are important because they help us regulate our nervous system by shifting our focus from overwhelm to calmness.
In times of high-functioning anxiety or stress, finding and acknowledging glimmers can create a sense of grounding.
Glimmers boost our mood, and allow us to reconnect with the present moment, promoting emotional resilience and a more balanced state of being. 💛
The term glimmers was coined by Deb Dana, a Licensed Clinical Social worker.
