Directions
Welcome! Come join us every Tuesday in a beautiful and calm sanctuary, tucked away in the woods, to meditate, relax and cultivate the art of mindful living.
This offering is suitable for those new to meditation and also to experienced meditators who wish to deepen their practice. Everyone is welcome, regardless of background or spiritual path!
We practice Mindfulness, also called Insight Meditation or Vipassana, which literally means to see clearly. It is a style of meditation that trains our mind so we can live more mindfully in the present moment, with increased awareness that helps us to relate to ourselves and others with more compassion and less anxiety, fear and stress.
The Vision
At the heart of this program is the understanding that spiritual diversity strengthens the unity of our communities. Our vision is to bring all the communities in the Maryland area and beyond together to share a common experience of contemplation and meditation in order to develop an environment that cultivates appreciation and respect for everyone’s cultural and religious wealth. Focusing on the values that unite us, it is our aspiration to cultivate loving-kindness, compassion, self-compassion, understanding and support for each other.
The outer manifestations in our world are reflections of our inner state of consciousness. In order to contribute to world peace, each and every one of us needs to start working on oneself by first bringing awareness to our inner lives.
There is an intelligence within us, an inner compass, which, if ignored, can create suffering for ourselves and others. Aligning with that force is what brings peace to our own hearts and ultimately to the world. Meditation and contemplation are priceless tools to help us connect to that power within ourselves.
We are making this program possible through the generosity of Unity by the Bay and the openness and commitment of Reverend Baine Palmer.
Monica Jordan, M.Ed., MCMBT, will be leading the mindfulness & meditations sessions.
The Format: We will meet in the Unity by the Bay sanctuary. We will start with one grounding mindfulness meditation, after which we will do an expressive meditation. After that we will do a guided meditation, and we will end with a Q&A period . We have chairs, but you can bring your own meditation cushion or mat if you prefer.
