This Self-Paced 6-Module Mindfulness Course offers tools that enhance focus and alert responses despite the pressures of a busy day. Tools that you can incorporate in your daily life to reduce stress, burn-out, find peace, improve your relationships, gain emotional balance, and increase your mental clarity.
Mindfulness is especially suited to physicians, because it can help counteract the worrying, perfectionism and self-judgment that are so common among doctors.
Mindfulness helps physicians listen and connect more carefully to their patients, show more compassion, and approach problems in a fresh, open-minded way. This program will guide you with tools to be more present for yourself and others and find more joy in your life.
Physician burnout has reached epidemic levels, as documented in national studies of both physicians in training and practising physicians. The consequences are negative effects on patient care, professionalism, physicians’ own care and safety. Mindfulness is an effective intervention to prevent and reduce burnout, and to bring presence, focus, and even joy to the practice.
Research studies [1] [2] [3] have shown decreased burnout and enhanced well-being, calmness, energy, sleep, concentration, and memory/learning from practicing mindfulness. Incorporating research based techniques developed at the University of Massachusetts by Jon Kabat-Zinn, and by renowned neuroscientists such as Dr. Richard Davidson and Dr. Dan Siegel, this Course is a dynamic exploration of our own reaction to stressful situations and of the researched-based path to well-being that Mindfulness uses to enhance our awareness of the present moment.
When practiced consistently, the results of Mindfulness are real and very far-reaching. In the largest sense, Mindfulness allows you to live in harmony with the realities of the world. It helps you to embrace life’s ever-changing impermanence, to live in peace with the inevitable ups and downs of being human, and to feel deeply connected to the whole of life. This Course will offer the participants the opportunity to explore the science behind their brains and their emotional states, and they will develop skills to expand the potential of their own brain function in order to work with thoughts and emotions, allowing the mind to become settled and centered.
