I have suffered from depression for most of my 70+ years. I have been hospitalized, and also have received medication and fairly long-term therapy, which helped me go on. Having gotten into a pretty bad place in the spring of 2022, I started meeting with Monica in May, after talking with several other therapists. On June 17, my journal records “Monica is the right choice.” Small, doable practices that Monica has taught me make a significant difference in my daily life; I am more at ease, more appreciative, more self-compassionate.
I now feel more whole, and I know that is mine to keep and live; not just a one-day, random happy feeling. Two things stand out to me about Monica’s approach. First, she explains how the practices actually affect the structure of my brain. This makes me know that it’s doing the practices that brings healing, not how I feel about them or whether I believe in them. I wouldn’t have said that knowledge of science could help me, but it does. This establishes trust, and I am able to express what I need to, even if it’s uncomfortable. My time with Monica has been a great gift, and people in my life have remarked on the change in me.
